Le Mini Macaron Review

After doing a bunch of research on at home nail gel kits I decided to go with the Le Mini Macaron kit.  I purchased my fairy floss kit from Harmon and gave it a whirl.  The reason I choose this product is because unlike the other at home gel kits, this one is only 2 coats.  There isn’t a base coat, color and then top coat.  It’s a thin base coat, cure for 30 seconds, and then a second coat, cure for 30 seconds and you’re done!

Because it’s a simpler system, I was concerned mostly about how long the color would last on my nails.  Regular nail polish will last me maybe a day or two before it will start chipping in spots.  The second thing I was considering was how long the manicure was going to take.  The mini kit can only cure 1 nail at a time and I didn’t want to invest in the bigger size that can cure your hand if I ended up not liking the product.  So it seemed to me that curing 1 nail at a time would be tedious, especially for two coats, and could take a long time.

I watched their online video tutorials on how to properly use the kit and one of the things that was very important was to file the nail a little bit.  But very gently of course, you don’t want your nail to be shiny, but you also don’t want to damage your nails.  So I did my prep, push back the cuticle and cut them.  Filed my nails a little bit and I used acetone to make sure that my nails were cleaned and prepped for the polish.  Your first coat needs to be a very thin layer.  This was a little weird for me because I’m used to regular polish and applying a generous coat.  But with this product you do not want to do that, you need a thinner coat in order for it to adhere better to you nails.  You do the first coat and then place your finger in the little macaron and cure for 30 seconds.  You push the button on top of your macaron, and it will automatically shut off after 30 seconds.  One thing I didn’t realize was the macaron needs to be connected to power in order to work.  I thought for some reason that you could charge it, but this is not the case.  So the usb needs to be plugged in.  I ended up using my power bank the second time I painted my nails and it worked great.

The Results…

I love the Le Mini Macaron kit! Since there is no drying time after, the whole process of curing for 30 seconds after each coat was quick and easy!  My manicure took way way way less time, especially since it was really just 2 coats and done.  I also was using a light pink color and usually with my regular polish I sometimes need to do 3 coats when it’s a light color.

As far as how long it lasted…I had a couple of small chips, but I had scrubbed the bathroom with a scrubby sponge and this would normally cause my regular manicure to completely chip off.  With my increased hand washing and cleaning that week, this product held up great.  It had chipped a little bit, but nothing that was too noticeable.  I ended up re-doing it on day 8 because my nails tend to grow quickly so the nail bed growth was pretty noticeable.  So overall, really great kit, easy to use and held up better than I had expected.

I loved Le Mini Macaron so much I purchased the remover clips, two more colors, the kitticorn magic powder set, and the matte topcoat.  You can see all the colors and products they offer here.
